Aquamarine

OCCURRENCE:In the pegmatites of Kalahandi, Bolangir, Sambalpur, Dhenkanal and Phulbani Districts.

COLOUR: Yellowish green, green to sky blue.

CHARACTERISTICS: Occurs sometimes as large, transparent, flawless, hexagonal crystals with remarkable clarity, good internal reflection and lustre

CUT GRADE: Suitable for facet cut with high recovery.


Heliodor

OCCURRENCE: Associated with aquamarine in the pegmatite occurrences of Bolangir and Sonepur Districts.


COLOUR: Light yellow to deep yellow.

CHARACTERISTICS: sometimes occurs as long hexagonal prisms with good clarity and transparency.

CUT GRADE: Suitable for facet cut.


Iolite

OCCURRENCE: In metamorphic occurrences of Kalahandi & Nawapada Districts.

COLOUR: Deep blue to violet

CHARACTERISTICS: Occurs as large, transparent, porphyroblasts with good lustre and internal reflection.

CUT GRADE: Facet grade


Garnet

OCCURRENCE: In regional metamorphic, altered amphibolite zones of Kalahandi, Nawapara, Dhenkanal and Sonepur Districts.

COLOUR: Medium to deep red, brownish red to dark Almandine, orange red to honey yellow Hessonite and reddish violet rhadolite.

CHARACTERISTICS: Transparent pieces, flawless with excellent lustre and internal reflection.

CUT GRADE: suitable for faceting cabochon and bead making.


Ruby

OCCURRENCE: In metamorphic altered. Contact zones in various belts of Kalahandi District.

COLOUR: Purple red to pigeon blood red.

CHARACTERISTICS: Transparent to translucent hexagonal crystals. Smaller pieces are flawless showing excellent lustre and internal reflection.

CUT GRADE: Facet grade, cabochon grade.


Sapphire

OCCURRENCE: In the nepheline syenites of Nawapara District.

COLOUR: Bluish grey to Prussian blue.

CHARACTERISTICS: Small transparent pieces with good internal reflection and lustre. The bigger pieces are translucent.

CUT GRADE: Facet grade, cabochon grade.


Chrysoberyl Cat's Eye

OCCURRENCE: In the pegmatites of Rayagada, Kalahandi, Bolangir Districts.

COLOUR: Greyish and lemon yellow to honey brown.

CHARACTERISTICS: Translucent pieces showing very sharp and well defined cats-eye effect.

CUT GRADE: Cobochon grade
